Updated Click Through Rates For Top 10 Search Results

in SEO

This was a very interesting update from the guys over at searchengineland.com about a new study which sheds more light on the number of people who click on page one results in the search engines, and how many of them click the result in each position. The last study I saw on these stats was done quite a long time ago, so this up-to-date version was very welcome.

Most people who saw previous studies assumed that the result in the number one position got about 40% of the clicks, with each drop in position getting roughly half of the clicks of the one above. As it turns out, those are very optimistic figures.

Top 10 Search Engine Results Click Through Rate

But not only is the amount of clicks the number one spot earns much less than previously assumed, the total percentage of people clicking on page one results is only just over 50%. That’s a surprise to say the least. I also noticed a much smaller difference between the bottom half of page one results, to be honest, there’s not much in it.
